In this class, children will have the opportunity to explore the arts through lyrical and jazz dance. They will learn technique while also learning two routines for our JAM Variety show in June. This spring the students will be doing a dance in the style of lyrical and a dance in the style of jazz. The style of Lyrical is about dancing to the meaning of the music. It is a flowy dance style that is a cross between jazz and ballet. Jazz is a more upbeat dance. Classes will always start with a time of stretching followed by a focus on technique. The rest of the class time will focus on teaching the lyrical and jazz routine to the students. Students will need comfortable clothes to dance in (ex: leotards, leggings, t-shirts, workout clothes, etc.). Students will need dance paws for this class. Students can choose to get jazz shoes or wear dance paws for both styles. They can be purchased on Amazon or on a dance wear website. This class is for students who are brand new to dancing or who have been dancing for years, all are welcome!

About the Instructor

Megan Gallagher is a graduate from Messiah College.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  While Megan loves teaching, she also has loved dancing since the age of four.  She has trained in styles including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and pointe.  She was also a part of musicals in high school where she fell in love with the musical theater style of dance. While studying at Messiah, Megan was also a part of their dance program on campus where she taught Musical Theater and choreographed for the hip-hop team.   She also took many classes and served in leadership positions while a part of the dance program at Messiah. Megan also has spent the past year teaching a variety of dance classes through the JAM program. Megan is very excited to continue bringing her love of dance to JAM as a way of ministry for children!
